A Time For Everything

I have always said
Pain is a part of life.
Hurt is a part of life.
To cut them
Out of life
Is to cripple life.
To cripple yourself.

From Ecclesiastes,
Chapter 3,
Verses 1 through 8,
Of the New International Version
Of the Old Testament
Of the Bible.

There is a time for everything
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate
a time for war and a time for peace.

There is a time for pain.
There is a time for hurt.
There is a time for everything.

I made a choice.
I chose to risk
Being hurt.
I chose to help
A friend in need.
And I paid dearly for that.
And the life I had then
Severely punished me
All because I chose to care.
And to not be afraid
Of being hurt.

There was a time,
In October, 2010,
Through June 2011,
When it was time to tear down.
Time to throw away.
Time to give up.

Now, it is time to build.
Time to mend.
Time to plant.

These are all
Natural parts of life.
To deny them.
To prevent them.
To avoid them.
Doesn’t work.

Which leaves me asking,
As I’ve asked now
Countless times
In the past 13 months.

What is everyone I know
So very much afraid of?
If it’s time,
Then it’s time.

If I find one of my friends
Is hurting once again.
Facing a nightmare
In their life.
Like the friend I had

I would not hesitate.
I would take the chance
Of being hurt again.

Because there is a time
For everything.
